What aircraft owners should know

More sun than any car. Far fewer details.

A light aircraft spends its life in hard Queensland sun, on an open apron or tied down between flights, and gets properly detailed far less often than the car parked next to the hangar. That’s why the upper surfaces chalk and fade first, and why the prep and the product matter more here than on anything with wheels.

UV in the air and on the apron

An aircraft cops ultraviolet in flight and again every hour it sits outside. Chalking and fade on the wings, cowl and upper fuselage is the usual starting point.

Surface compatibility comes first

Aircraft finishes vary. Painted aluminium is usually straightforward; composite, fabric and specialist finishes need a conversation first. We check before anything goes on, and we say no where it isn’t appropriate.

Exhaust residue and bugs

Exhaust staining along the belly and bugs on the leading edges and cowl bake on in the heat. A coated surface lets them wipe off instead of needing a scrub.

Long gaps between details

Because an aircraft is cleaned far less often than a car, the finish is left to fend for itself for longer. A coating does more of that work between visits.

What a coating does on an aircraft, and what it doesn't

A ceramic coating won’t stop a stone chip or wear on a leading edge, and we won’t tell you it will. What it does is help the finish hold its gloss in the sun and let exhaust residue, bugs and grime release with a wipe, so the aircraft is easier to keep clean between flights. Oxidation and light marks are polished out first, with a conservative cut wherever the paint depth is uncertain.

Our answer: we inspect the aircraft and its finish first, prepare it gently, and only coat what the surface suits.

How the job runs

How We Prepare an Aircraft Before It's Coated

Every aircraft job starts with an inspection and a conversation about the finish and where it’s kept. The work is then done on site at your hangar, at a pace that suits the surface rather than the clock.

  1. 01Inspect the aircraft and confirm which surfaces are suitable for polishing and coating.
  2. 02Confirm hangar access, power and water as part of the quote.
  3. 03Wash the aircraft by hand and lift exhaust residue and bugs from the belly, cowl and leading edges.
  4. 04Address oxidation and contamination with products confirmed compatible with the finish.
  5. 05Machine polish the paint, keeping the cut conservative wherever depth is uncertain.
  6. 06Refine the finish by hand around rivets, seams, fairings and decals.
  7. 07Apply Fireball ceramic coating by hand where it suits the surface.
  8. 08Walk around the finished aircraft with you and hand over the documentation.

Questions Aircraft Owners Ask

Can’t see yours? Call or text and you’ll get a straight answer.

Have you actually done aircraft before?

Yes. It’s a small part of what we do, and the aircraft on this page are ones we’ve worked on. Each one is quoted on its own, because no two are the same.

Is a ceramic coating safe on an aircraft finish?

Only where compatibility is confirmed, and that’s the first thing we check. Painted aluminium is usually straightforward; composite, fabric and specialist finishes need a conversation before anything goes on. Where a coating isn’t appropriate, we say so.

Do you come to the hangar?

Yes. Aircraft are the one thing we work on away from our Ashmore workshop. The job is done where the aircraft is kept, and access, power and water are confirmed as part of the quote.

What does it cost?

It depends on the aircraft, its finish and its condition, so it’s quoted after an inspection rather than off a menu. Send the type, a few photos and where it’s hangared, and we’ll come back with a plan and a price in writing.

How long does it take?

It depends on the size and condition of the aircraft. We’ll give you a realistic timeframe with the quote and plan the work around when you need to fly.

Will it stop stone chips or leading-edge wear?

No. No coating stops a chip or erosion on a leading edge. What it does is make the aircraft far easier to clean and help the finish hold its gloss in the sun.

Is there a warranty?

The coating is matched to the surface at inspection, and any warranty position is confirmed in writing with your quote.
