What boat and jet ski owners should know
A boat or ski lives in harsher conditions than any car: hours in full sun on the water, glare coming back up off it, and salt left drying on the hull after every trip. Then it sits on the trailer in the sun for the rest of the week. Most of the fading and chalking we’re asked to fix didn’t happen while anyone was using it.
When salt water dries it leaves microscopic crystals on the surface. Those crystals hold moisture against the gelcoat, so the damage carries on in the driveway, days after the boat or ski came out of the water. A proper rinse after every trip matters.
UV breaks gelcoat down until the colour goes flat and a powdery residue comes off on your hand. Caught before it turns porous, it cuts back and seals. Left too long, it can let water into the fibreglass underneath and needs far more than a polish.
Many Sea-Doo models use Polytec, a moulded composite rather than fibreglass and gelcoat, and most hull products are made for fibreglass only. Aluminium hulls are different again, dulling to grey rather than chalking. Working out which one is in front of us is where the job starts.
Bunk carpet holds grit, and every load and unload drags it along the same strips of hull. Combined with sun on the same surfaces, the underside of a ski takes more wear than the deck ever does.
We work the hull sides, transom, deck and superstructure of a boat, and the deck, hull sides and bottom hull of a ski. Anything below a boat’s waterline, including antifoul, is specialist work with completely different requirements, and we don’t coat over it. A ceramic coating won’t stop a scratch from a sandbar or a mooring. What it does is let salt and grime rinse off instead of drying into the surface, so the gloss we restore stays there.
Our answer: we identify the hull, restore it with the gentlest method that works, then lock it in with Fireball.
How the job runs
Gelcoat gives you more material to work with than car paint, but it’s still finite, so the cut is matched to the hull rather than the other way round. How long it needs with us depends on its size and condition.

Your boat or ski gets a Fireball ceramic coating applied by hand by a Certified Fireball Installer at our Ashmore workshop, after the hull has been identified, restored where it needs it and properly prepared. The right coating is matched to its surface when we inspect it.
