What car and SUV owners should know
Most cars on the Gold Coast live outside, get washed wherever is quickest and spend the day on the M1 under Queensland UV. Whether it’s a Corolla, a CX-5, a Kona or an Outlander, the paint is a modern colour coat under a clear coat, and that clear coat is the only thing keeping the gloss. Look after it and the car looks new for years. Leave it bare and it starts going from the first summer.
New cars sit in holding yards and get a quick pre-delivery wash before you collect them. Fine scratches, light holograms and bonded fallout are often already in the paint on day one, and they’re far easier to deal with before a coating goes on than after.
Brush washes and a dry towel put more swirls into a daily driver than the road ever does. Black, dark grey and deep blue cars show every one of them in Gold Coast sun.
Queensland UV works hardest on the horizontal panels. Whites and silvers go flat, then the clear coat turns hazy, then chalky. Caught early it corrects. Once the clear coat starts letting go, it’s a paint shop job, and we’ll tell you so up front.
Anything acidic left on a hot bonnet for an afternoon can etch into the clear coat. A coated surface buys you time and lets most of it lift off with a rinse instead of a scrub.
A ceramic coating won’t stop a stone chip or a trolley in the car park, and we won’t tell you it will. What it does is keep the gloss up and make the car far easier to wash, so dust, bugs and road grime come off with a rinse instead of being scrubbed in. Swirls and light marks in the clear coat are polished out first, so the coating locks in a finish worth keeping.

Yes. A new car has the least to correct and the most years ahead of it. Yard marks and pre-delivery wash swirls are refined out first, so the coating goes onto a finish that’s genuinely clean.
Usually not. Swirled or dull clear coat corrects back, provided there’s enough of it left. We measure the paint before any machine work, and if the clear coat has already started to fail, we’ll tell you honestly before you spend anything.
