If you’ve collected two quotes for window tinting on the Gold Coast and one is half the other, you’re not imagining it. Window tinting cost varies more than almost any job we do, and most of that variation has nothing to do with the shop’s margin. It comes down to four things: the film, the vehicle, the scope, and what’s already on the glass. Here’s how a Gold Coast tinting quote is actually built, so you can compare two properly instead of picking the cheaper one.

Window tinting cost starts with the film

There are three families of automotive window film, and they aren’t priced alike because they don’t perform alike.

See our window tinting: SunTek nano-ceramic film, fitted in our Ashmore workshop with a lifetime film and installation warranty.

Rather just ask? Send the year, model and colour and get a price in writing.

  • Dyed film is the cheapest to buy and fit. It darkens the glass and that’s about all it does — and it’s the film that goes purple and bubbles a few Gold Coast summers in.
  • Metallised film rejects more heat, but the metal layer can interfere with phone, GPS and toll-tag signals.
  • Nano-ceramic film uses ceramic particles to reject infrared heat. It costs the most, it’s colour-stable and metal-free, and it’s the only film we fit.

Our guide to the different window tint materials covers the trade-offs. For pricing, the short version is: a quote that’s much cheaper than the rest is almost always a cheaper film, and the difference shows up in year three, not on the day.

The vehicle: how much glass, and what shape

A two-door coupe has less glass than a seven-seat SUV. A dual-cab ute has four doors and a rear screen. More glass is more film and more labour.

Shape matters as much as count. Flat side windows on a work ute fit quickly. A steeply curved rear screen has to be heat-shaped to sit flat, and rear screens carry demister lines — sometimes the antenna too — that the film is worked around so nothing lifts later. This is why our window tinting page quotes per vehicle: a “from” price only means something if your car is the one it was calculated on.

Full vehicle or rear windows only

  • Full vehicle — every eligible window, front sides included, plus a windscreen strip where permitted.
  • Rear windows only — rear sides and rear screen. Common for fleet vehicles, dealer-warranty conditions, and families who mainly want the back seats cooler.

Rear-only costs less because it’s less glass, and for some vehicles it’s the right choice rather than just the cheaper one. Which shade is legal on which window is covered in our Queensland tint laws guide; we confirm the film against those limits at the consultation.

Old film changes the quote

If there’s tint on the glass now, it comes off before new film goes on, and removal is quoted as its own line. Recent film peels cleanly. Old purple film comes off in pieces and leaves adhesive to work off. Film over a rear demister has to be removed without pulling the elements with it — slow, careful work. Ask every shop whether removal is included; a quote that skips the question isn’t complete.

What the labour price buys

A proper Gold Coast tint job runs like this: film chosen against your priorities; glass prepared in a controlled bay (dust trapped under film shows every time the sun hits it); computer-cut panels squeegeed on with the edges tucked to the seals; then a cure with the windows up — typically 48 to 72 hours in our humidity — and aftercare instructions to take home.

A cheap job saves its money on the middle two steps: film hand-cut on the glass, fitted in the open, edges stopped short of the seal. It looks fine on the day. The difference appears as edge lift, specks and peeling over the next year or two.

Why our climate makes the better film worth it

Gold Coast summers combine high UV with high humidity, and a car parked at the beach or on a work site heat-soaks for hours. Dyed film fades faster here than in a cooler city, and a car’s interior degrades faster under that UV. After more than 25 years tinting on the Coast, the cars we see back for film removal are almost never nano-ceramic. That’s the practical case for paying for the better film once.

Frequently asked questions

Why is one window tinting quote so much cheaper than another?

Almost always the film. Ask each shop what film they’re quoting, by name, and whether the install is done in a controlled bay.

Does nano-ceramic tint affect phone or GPS signal?

No. It contains no metal, so it doesn’t interfere with phone, GPS or toll tags.

Can I get a window tinting price over the phone?

We’ll give you a close idea from the make, model, body style and whether there’s old film. The final figure is confirmed once we’ve seen the glass.

Get a straight window tinting quote

Tell us the make, model and body style, full vehicle or rear-only, and whether there’s old film on the glass. You’ll get a per-vehicle price for nano-ceramic film fitted properly — no “from” pricing and no surprises on the day.
