What Jayco owners should know
Jayco has been building RVs since 1975, from J-Pods and camper trailers to Silverline caravans and JRV campervans. Whichever one you own, it'll spend most of its life parked outside in Queensland sun, which is why the best time to protect it is while the finish is still new. Book a time, bring it in to our Ashmore workshop, and we'll take it from there.
We protect every kind of Jayco:
UV works on caravan gelcoat every day it's parked outside, slowly taking it from glossy to dull, then chalky and faded. It happens so gradually that most owners only notice when they park beside a brand-new van. Protecting the finish while it's new is far easier than winding that back later.
The usual advice for a fibreglass van is a wax or sealant reapplied at least twice a year: carnauba every three to four months, a synthetic sealant around six. On something the size of a Silverline or Starcraft that's a lot of weekends up a ladder, which is exactly where a ceramic coating earns its keep.
Runoff from the roof leaves black streaks down the walls under windows, awnings and vents, and road film builds up on the front and lower panels after every trip. On a coated van it comes off with a soft wash instead of a scrubbing brush.
The roof takes more sun than any other surface and is the one nobody climbs up to check. It's also where the vents, hatches and their sealant live. We look it over before anything is coated, because a beautiful finish over a tired seal helps no one.
Many current Jaycos are built with high-gloss fibreglass skins bonded over a welded aluminium frame, Jayco's Tough Frame construction. That gives a smooth, glossy exterior that suits a ceramic coating perfectly. On a new or near-new van there's usually very little correction to do, so the time goes into thorough preparation and getting the coating on before Queensland UV starts working on it. Left unprotected, fibreglass gelcoat does oxidise, going dull, then chalky and faded.
