What BMW owners should know
The X5 is the BMW we're asked about most, followed by the 1 and 2 Series, X3 and 3 Series, and the X1, X3 and X5 were among BMW's best sellers in Australia last year. Add the M cars and an electric range that runs from the iX1 and i4 to the iX, and whatever the model, detailers find BMW clear coat varies from colour to colour and car to car. So we read your car's paint before deciding how to correct it, then protect it with Fireball.
We protect every kind of BMW:
Black Sapphire, Jet Black, Carbon Black and the darker greys show every wash swirl in Gold Coast sun, and detailers single out Jet Black as one of the softer BMW finishes. Dark paint is where careful correction and a coating pay off most.
The same model in two colours can need completely different pads and polishes. Too aggressive takes clear coat off for nothing; too gentle wastes a day and leaves the swirls. We test a section on your car and work from that.
Gloss black kidney grilles, mirror caps and Shadowline trim on M Sport and M models scratch more easily than the paint and show every mark. They get a lighter process of their own, so the trim comes up as clean as the bodywork.
BMW's electric models carry cameras, sensors and a charge port flap that are masked and worked around by hand, never machined or coated over. An EV that mostly lives on a charger still collects wash swirls, so it gets the same test section and careful correction as any other BMW.
BMW paint is a modern water-based colour coat under clear, like every new car, but it doesn't behave the same across the range. Experienced detailers report Jet Black as noticeably soft while most other BMW colours are hard, and say no two cars are ever quite the same, which is why a test section comes first. Frozen (matte) finishes are different again: they can't be machine-polished like gloss paint, so we look at those in person before recommending anything.
