Polestar ceramic coating on the Gold Coast

Minimal design leaves defects nowhere to hide.
Polestar's whole look is large, uninterrupted, single-colour surfaces. It is a beautiful way to draw a car and a difficult way to keep one, because there is no body line, no chrome and no texture for a swirl mark or a chip to disappear into. Everything shows.

Paint profile

What Polestar paint is actually like

Detailers working on Polestars report the paint as notably soft, with owners describing the Void finish as softer again. Alongside that, stone chipping comes up repeatedly at low mileage - one owner counting far more chips at 7,000 miles than on any previous car. Opinion is not unanimous, and at least one painter who inspected a Polestar disagreed that the paint was soft, so we work from what the vehicle in front of us reads rather than the reputation.

Common issues

What we see most on Polestar

Stone chips early

Owners report chipping on the bonnet and front bar at mileages where most cars are still unmarked. It is the single most common Polestar paint complaint.

Void and the darker finishes

The dark colours are reported as the softest and they are also the least forgiving. Every wash swirl, every towel mark and every fingerprint around the handles is visible in direct sun.

Large flat panels show everything

A long, flat door with no crease in it reflects light evenly, which is exactly why it looks so good and exactly why a hologram from a rotary polisher stands out on it. Finishing work on these cars has to be right, not nearly right.

Sensors, cameras and radar covers

Modern EVs carry driver-assistance sensors behind panels, badges and bumper covers. Those surfaces get masked rather than coated - a layer of anything in the wrong place can interfere with what the car is trying to see.

Our process

How we prep a Polestar before coating

Preparation is the job. The coating is the last hour of it.
  1. 01Full inspection under LED and swirl-finder lighting, with paint depth readings recorded panel by panel.
  2. 02Two-bucket hand wash, wheels and arches degreased, badges and shuts cleaned out.
  3. 03Chemical iron and industrial fallout removal, then a clay treatment to lift bonded contamination.
  4. 04Tape-up of trim, rubbers and sensitive edges before any machine work.
  5. 05Correction with finishing pads and a light cut, then a full inspection under multiple light sources. Soft paint on flat panels shows finishing marks that a harder finish would hide, so the last pass matters more here than on most cars.
  6. 06Extra attention to the bonnet and front bar where chipping concentrates, and careful masking around sensor and camera housings.
  7. 07Panel wipe with a coating-safe solvent to strip polishing oils and reveal the true finish.
  8. 08Fireball ceramic coating applied by hand, levelled panel by panel under controlled lighting.
  9. 09IR / controlled cure, then a final inspection and handover pack with aftercare instructions.
