What Honda owners should know
From the CR-V and HR-V to the ZR-V, Civic and Accord, Hondas are bought to last, and plenty of the ones we see are still the family car ten years on. Most of today's range comes as an e:HEV hybrid, the Prelude is a hybrid too, and the new Super-ONE is fully electric. The mechanicals hold up. The paint is the part that ages first, especially on a car that lives outside on the Gold Coast, which is why protecting it early pays off for as long as you own it.
We protect every kind of Honda:
Black, dark grey and deep blue Hondas show every swirl from an automatic car wash. The marks sit in the clear coat, so they polish out - as long as there's clear coat left to polish.
Roof, bonnet and boot take the UV load. On a car that lives outside on the Gold Coast, those panels lose their gloss first, and they're the ones worth protecting hardest.
e:HEV hybrids and the Super-ONE carry cameras and sensors front and rear, and the Super-ONE has a charge port that gets opened every day. Everything sensitive is masked and worked around by hand, never machined or coated over, and a coated finish rinses clean far easier around them.
If clear coat has already lifted, no coating fixes it. On an older Honda we'll tell you honestly whether it's a coating job or a repaint job before you spend anything.
Like most new cars, a Honda leaves the factory with a modern colour coat under a clear coat. It polishes up well, but left unprotected, wash swirls and Queensland UV start dulling it from the first summer. On older Hondas we measure the clear coat before correcting, because how much is left decides how far we go.
