The colour is the pattern. Owners of white and pearl white cars report paint separating and flaking away in a manner that has no relationship to age or care, while the same models in other colours are largely unaffected.
The reported sequence is paint bubbling, then lifting, then flaking off - and once bare metal is exposed, rust follows. That makes it a condition worth catching early rather than a cosmetic annoyance.
It is fair to note this is not only Hyundai. White finishes across several major manufacturers have drawn similar complaints over the same period. It does not make it less of a problem, but it does mean it is not a reason to single out one badge.
Because Hyundai has extended paint coverage on some models, an affected car may have a claim before it needs anything from us. If we find delamination we will tell you to speak to Hyundai first - that conversation is worth having before you pay anyone for paintwork.
