Suzuki ceramic coating on the Gold Coast

Thin factory paint on a car that gets used hard.
Jimnys go bush, Swifts get parked in tight city spots, and neither has much paint on it to spare. Suzuki's factory finish is thin even by modern standards, which means marks that would buff out of another make can go straight through on a Suzuki.

What Suzuki paint is actually like

Suzuki's modern water-based colour and clear coat is reported by owners and by Australian motoring commentary as unusually thin and easily damaged - light contact leaving marks, visible orange peel in the factory finish, and paint lifting from mirror caps. Thin paint changes how a job is approached: there is less material to correct into, so we measure first and cut as little as possible.

Common issues

What we see most on Suzuki

Very little paint to work with

The single most important thing about a Suzuki. Where a thicker finish gives room to correct a deep scratch, a Suzuki often does not. We take depth readings before touching it, and if the paint is too thin to correct safely we will say so rather than risk burning through.

Marks from light contact

Owners describe scratches appearing from almost any contact - a bag against a door, a brush past a garden. A hard ceramic layer over the top is doing real work on a car like this.

Mirror caps and painted plastic

Painted mirror housings and plastic trim are reported as the first place Suzuki paint lets go. They sit in full sun, they are handled constantly, and they get the least care in a wash.

Bush work on Jimnys

A Jimny used the way Jimnys get used collects scratches down both flanks from scrub, plus stone damage along the sills. Coating will not stop a branch, but it makes the panel far easier to clean up afterwards.

Our process

How we prep a Suzuki before coating

Preparation is the job. The coating is the last hour of it.
  1. 01Full inspection under LED and swirl-finder lighting, with paint depth readings recorded panel by panel.
  2. 02Two-bucket hand wash, wheels and arches degreased, badges and shuts cleaned out.
  3. 03Chemical iron and industrial fallout removal, then a clay treatment to lift bonded contamination.
  4. 04Tape-up of trim, rubbers and sensitive edges before any machine work.
  5. 05Paint depth measured across every panel first, then the lightest correction that clears the defects. On a finish this thin, restraint matters more than results - we would rather leave a mark than go through the clear coat.
  6. 06Extra attention to mirror caps, painted trim and the sills, where thin paint fails first.
  7. 07Panel wipe with a coating-safe solvent to strip polishing oils and reveal the true finish.
  8. 08Fireball ceramic coating applied by hand, levelled panel by panel under controlled lighting.
  9. 09IR / controlled cure, then a final inspection and handover pack with aftercare instructions.
