The CX-5 was one of Australia's ten best-selling vehicles last year, with the CX-3, BT-50, CX-30 and Mazda3 not far behind. On the Gold Coast that means BT-50s towing and heading up the beach, CX SUVs on the school run, and Mazda3s and MX-5s driven for the fun of it. Whichever Mazda is in your driveway, its clean, flowing panels and deep colours show wash swirls and dull paint more than most, which is why the finish deserves proper protection from day one.

Mazda's famous red is built in layers: a reflective base, a translucent red layer that carries the colour, and clear on top. That's where the depth comes from, and it's why correction on it stays well inside the clear coat.
The CX range and Mazda3 do the commute and the school run and mostly park outside, so the roof, bonnet and boot lose their gloss first. An MX-5 kept under a cover picks up fine scratches every time it goes on and off. A coated finish rinses clean, so it gets washed properly instead of dusted.
BT-50 owners tow, work and head up the beach. A coated finish lets mud, salt and sand rinse off instead of being scrubbed in, and the areas under canopies, racks and bull bar mounts get cleaned out and worked by hand first.
Like most new cars, a Mazda leaves the factory with a modern colour coat under a clear coat. Mazda's signature colours go further, building depth in layers, but every Mazda colour relies on that clear coat for its gloss. Left unprotected, wash swirls and Queensland UV start dulling it from the first summer, whatever the model and whatever the colour.
