Zeekr has only been on sale here a short time, so almost every one on the Gold Coast is close to new. That is the ideal starting point for a coating: the paint has not had a summer to oxidise or a year of car washes to swirl, so the job is protection rather than repair.

What Zeekr paint is actually like

We will not pretend to a track record that does not exist yet. Zeekr is too new in Australia for owners to have built up any body of experience with how its paint ages, and reviewers so far have described the cars as very well finished. So we treat a Zeekr the way we treat any new electric car: take depth readings across every panel first, and let the vehicle tell us what it needs rather than working to a reputation it has not had time to earn either way.

Common issues

What we see most on Zeekr

Modern EV paint systems run thin

Across the industry, electric vehicles have moved to thinner, lower-solvent paint systems, and owners of several EV brands report chipping earlier than they are used to. Whether Zeekr follows that pattern is not yet established here - but it is the sensible assumption to work from until it is.

Gloss black and dark finishes

The darker options in the range look superb and show every swirl mark from an automatic car wash in direct sun. Gloss black in Queensland light is the least forgiving finish there is.

Sensors, cameras and flush handles

These cars carry driver-assistance sensors behind panels and badges, and flush handles create painted pockets that get touched every day. Sensor surfaces get masked rather than coated, and the handle recesses get done properly by hand.

Repairs are harder on a new marque

Panel repair and colour matching on a make that has only just arrived means fewer body shops with the paint codes on file and longer waits on parts. Avoiding the damage in the first place is worth more on a car like this than on a Corolla.

Our process

How we prep a Zeekr before coating

Preparation is the job. The coating is the last hour of it.

01Full inspection under LED and swirl-finder lighting, with paint depth readings recorded panel by panel.
02Two-bucket hand wash, wheels and arches degreased, badges and shuts cleaned out.
03Chemical iron and industrial fallout removal, then a clay treatment to lift bonded contamination.
04Tape-up of trim, rubbers and sensitive edges before any machine work.
05Depth readings across every panel before any machine work, and a conservative correction. On a make with no established paint history in this market, measuring is the only responsible way to decide how hard to work it.
06Extra attention to the bonnet and front bar, the flush door handle recesses, and careful masking around every sensor and camera housing.
07Panel wipe with a coating-safe solvent to strip polishing oils and reveal the true finish.
08Fireball ceramic coating applied by hand, levelled panel by panel under controlled lighting.
09IR / controlled cure, then a final inspection and handover pack with aftercare instructions.
