Porsche ceramic coating on the Gold Coast

Expensive cars, surprisingly soft paint.
Porsche owners are usually the most surprised of anyone by how easily their paint marks. The finish on a modern Porsche is soft, and softness is unrelated to price - it is a consequence of how every manufacturer paints cars now. What it means in practice is that a Porsche shows every mistake, including the ones made by whoever polished it last.

What Porsche paint is actually like

Porsche paint is consistently described by owners and detailers as soft, and newer cars as softer than the ones before them. Owners report swirls and hairline scratches appearing from ordinary washing, with the dark metallics - Macan owners single out the dark blue - reported as the most delicate of all. Soft paint corrects beautifully and re-marks instantly, which is why the finishing work and the protection on top of it matter more here than the cutting.

Common issues

What we see most on Porsche

Swirls from ordinary washing

Soft clear coat and a wash mitt is enough. Owners describe hairline scratches building up within months on cars that have never seen an automatic wash, which is why how a Porsche gets cleaned matters as much as what is on it.

Stone chips on a low nose

Common on the Boxster and Cayman in particular. A low, forward-raked nose sits directly in the path of everything the car in front picks up, and soft paint offers very little resistance to it.

Damage from the wrong machine work

Detailers are specifically cautioned about aggressive machine polishing on modern Porsches. Soft paint cuts fast, and it holds holograms from a rotary in a way that harder paint does not. More than one Porsche has arrived here worse off than before it was polished.

Dark metallics show everything

The darker metallic colours are reported as the softest in the range and they are also the most revealing. In direct Queensland sun there is nowhere for a swirl mark to hide on a dark Porsche.

Our process

How we prep a Porsche before coating

Preparation is the job. The coating is the last hour of it.
  1. 01Full inspection under LED and swirl-finder lighting, with paint depth readings recorded panel by panel.
  2. 02Two-bucket hand wash, wheels and arches degreased, badges and shuts cleaned out.
  3. 03Chemical iron and industrial fallout removal, then a clay treatment to lift bonded contamination.
  4. 04Tape-up of trim, rubbers and sensitive edges before any machine work.
  5. 05Correction kept deliberately gentle - lower speeds, finishing pads, and the least aggressive combination that clears the defect. On paint this soft the risk is not failing to correct it, it is correcting it and leaving holograms behind.
  6. 06Extra attention to the nose, front bar and sills, and a final inspection under multiple light sources to confirm the finish is genuinely clean rather than just glossy.
  7. 07Panel wipe with a coating-safe solvent to strip polishing oils and reveal the true finish.
  8. 08Fireball ceramic coating applied by hand, levelled panel by panel under controlled lighting.
  9. 09IR / controlled cure, then a final inspection and handover pack with aftercare instructions.
