What Land Rover owners should know
The Defender was Land Rover's best seller in Australia last year, with the Range Rover Sport next, and they cover two very different owners. A Defender or Discovery tows, tours and goes up the beach; a Range Rover, Sport, Velar or Evoque mostly lives on the bitumen and is expected to look immaculate. Either way, the paint deserves a finish that rinses clean and keeps its gloss in Queensland sun.
We protect every kind of Land Rover:
Defender and Discovery owners use them: beach tracks, scrub and salt spray. A coated finish lets mud and salt rinse off instead of being scrubbed into the paint, though the seams and underside still need a proper rinse after a trip.
Santorini Black, Carpathian Grey and the other dark finishes on a Range Rover's long bonnet and roof show every wash swirl in direct sun, and on a luxury SUV every mark gets noticed. Most of those marks go in at the car wash, not on the road.
Gloss black roofs, grilles and trim scratch more easily than the body colour and show every mark. They get a lighter process of their own before they're coated.
Roof racks, ladders and bolt-on gear move slightly against the paint they're mounted to, and grit gets underneath. We pay particular attention around them so those areas come up as clean as the rest.
Like every modern car, a Land Rover leaves the factory with a water-based colour coat under a clear coat. Big, flat panels - roofs, bonnets and slab sides - put a lot of that clear coat square-on to Queensland UV, and they show every swirl and water spot. We correct conservatively from depth readings, then protect the whole vehicle under Fireball.
