Isuzu ceramic coating on the Gold Coast

It starts on the cab roof - and on a ute this tall, nobody ever sees the roof.
The D-Max and MU-X are built to work and generally do it very well. The paint complaint Australian owners raise is remarkably consistent in where it appears: the top of the cab and the edge around the windscreen. It is also the one part of a tall ute that its owner never actually looks at.

What Isuzu paint is actually like

Australian D-Max owners report clear coat peeling and paint fading concentrated on the cab roof and around the top of the windscreen, in some cases after a relatively short time. Isuzu has generally treated these as environmental deterioration rather than factory defects, and warranty claims for clear coat peeling have been declined on that basis - the warranty explicitly excludes normal deterioration from use and exposure. Whatever the cause, the practical position for an owner is that this is theirs to prevent.

What we see most on Isuzu

Cab roof and windscreen surround

The specific pattern Australian owners describe: peeling around the top of the windscreen and fading across the top of the cab. Both are horizontal, both take full Queensland sun all day, and both are above eye level on a vehicle this tall.

Warranty usually will not cover it

Owners have had clear coat claims declined on the grounds that deterioration from use and exposure to the elements is not covered. Whether or not you agree with that, it means protecting the roof is a decision worth making early rather than a problem to argue about later.

Faded decals and stripes

Australian owners report door decals fading badly around all four doors. Printed vinyl goes long before paint does, and once it has gone chalky it cannot be polished back - it has to be replaced.

The problem you cannot see

Almost nobody checks the roof of a raised dual cab. By the time damage on the cab roof becomes visible from ground level it has usually been developing for a couple of years. It is worth getting a look up there before deciding what a vehicle needs.

Our process

How we prep a Isuzu before coating

Preparation is the job. The coating is the last hour of it.
  1. 01Full inspection under LED and swirl-finder lighting, with paint depth readings recorded panel by panel.
  2. 02Two-bucket hand wash, wheels and arches degreased, badges and shuts cleaned out.
  3. 03Chemical iron and industrial fallout removal, then a clay treatment to lift bonded contamination.
  4. 04Tape-up of trim, rubbers and sensitive edges before any machine work.
  5. 05The cab roof and windscreen surround inspected first, from above, before anything else is planned. On an Isuzu that is where the condition of the whole vehicle is really decided, and it is the area an inspection from ground level completely misses.
  6. 06Extra attention to the cab roof and windscreen edge, and decals assessed rather than machined - a faded decal will not survive a polisher.
  7. 07Panel wipe with a coating-safe solvent to strip polishing oils and reveal the true finish.
  8. 08Fireball ceramic coating applied by hand, levelled panel by panel under controlled lighting.
  9. 09IR / controlled cure, then a final inspection and handover pack with aftercare instructions.
