INEOS Grenadier ceramic coating on the Gold Coast

A brand-new marque - so check what you actually took delivery of.
The Grenadier has only been on Australian roads a few years, which means almost every one we see is young enough that getting the paint right now sets up the next decade. It also means early-production quirks are still working their way through, and the finish is worth a proper look before it gets coated.

What INEOS Grenadier paint is actually like

Early Grenadier owners have raised real concerns about paint finish quality relative to what the vehicle costs - including clear coat breaking down on the front of a truck at around 20,000 miles, and at least one new vehicle found to have had panel repair and repaint carried out before the owner ever saw it. Experience varies between vehicles, which on a marque this young is exactly what you would expect. It makes the inspection the important part.

What we see most on INEOS Grenadier

Worth inspecting before you coat it

An owner had a new Grenadier assessed by two independent body shops, both of which found a rear quarter had been repaired and repainted before delivery. Repaired paint behaves differently under a machine and cures on its own timeline. Finding it first is the difference between a good job and an expensive surprise.

Clear coat wear on the nose

Reported on the front of the vehicle at relatively low mileage. The nose of a Grenadier is upright, flat and square-on to the road, which puts a lot of surface directly in the path of everything thrown up at highway speed.

Fittings that scuff what they are bolted to

Roof racks, ladders, snorkels, awnings and recovery gear all move slightly against the paint they are mounted to, and grit gets underneath. It is the most common damage on a genuinely used four-wheel drive and the least often noticed.

A working vehicle that still has to clean up

Mud, dust and salt end up in every seam. A coating will not stop that, but it releases contamination far more readily, which in practice means the truck actually gets cleaned after a trip instead of sitting dirty until next time.

Our process

How we prep a INEOS Grenadier before coating

Preparation is the job. The coating is the last hour of it.
  1. 01Full inspection under LED and swirl-finder lighting, with paint depth readings recorded panel by panel.
  2. 02Two-bucket hand wash, wheels and arches degreased, badges and shuts cleaned out.
  3. 03Chemical iron and industrial fallout removal, then a clay treatment to lift bonded contamination.
  4. 04Tape-up of trim, rubbers and sensitive edges before any machine work.
  5. 05A full inspection for previous repair work before any correction - on a vehicle this new, any repainted panel is worth knowing about, and it changes both how we correct it and whether it is ready to be coated at all.
  6. 06Extra attention to the nose and the areas under and around roof racks and bolt-on fittings, where wear concentrates on this vehicle.
  7. 07Panel wipe with a coating-safe solvent to strip polishing oils and reveal the true finish.
  8. 08Fireball ceramic coating applied by hand, levelled panel by panel under controlled lighting.
  9. 09IR / controlled cure, then a final inspection and handover pack with aftercare instructions.
