What Lexus owners should know
The NX was Lexus's best seller in Australia last year, and it's the Lexus we're asked about most, followed by the IS and RX. Whether yours is a hybrid, an F Sport or the fully electric RZ or ES, Lexus owners tend to keep their cars for years, and Queensland UV, wash swirls and water spots wear the gloss down long before anything mechanical does, which is exactly why the paint deserves proper protection.
We protect every kind of Lexus:
Graphite Black, Onyx and the darker greys show every wash swirl in Gold Coast sun. Most of it goes in at the car wash or when the car is dried with the wrong towel.
Lexus's self-restoring clear coat can recover from the finest surface marks, but damage that cuts through it stays. It doesn't stop wash swirls building up or water spots etching in, and it isn't a substitute for protecting the surface.
Spindle grille surrounds, mirror caps and the gloss black trim on F Sport models scratch more easily than the paint and show every mark. They get a lighter process of their own before they're coated.
The electric RZ and ES carry cameras, sensors and a charge port flap that are masked and worked around by hand, never machined or coated over. An EV still picks up wash swirls and water spots like any other car, so it gets the same light correction and protection.
A Lexus leaves the factory with a modern water-based colour coat under clear, and the finish quality is excellent. Lexus also developed a self-restoring clear coat, first used on the LS, that can recover from very fine surface scratches - but it can't fix damage that goes through it. Whatever the model, the clear coat is what keeps the colour deep, and once it's polished away it doesn't come back, so we correct lightly and protect it under Fireball.
